Meet the Team

Teresa Karam, Owner | Founder
After years of working across diverse industries and travelling extensively, Teresa followed a long-held passion and completed her massage therapy qualifications in London in 2004. A lifelong lover of sport and the outdoors, she found remedial massage to be a natural fit. With a personal background in sports, weight training, CrossFit and yoga, Teresa brings a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal challenges active people often face. Following two decades of hands-on experience, Teresa has now transitioned away from massage therapy and is currently studying a Bachelor Degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Building on her established dry needling practice, she is excited to broaden her clinical offerings and become a qualified acupuncturist. During this transition, Teresa provides Hybrid Therapy which combines Western needling with traditional Chinese techniques such as cupping and Gua Sha (scraping). This is tailored to each client’s individual needs achieving excellent results for pain management, stiffness and recovery. Her other service is Cosmetic Facial Needling - another therapy rooted in Chinese medicine that assists in skin rejuvenation working with your body's own resources. Teresa is passionate about holistic health and wellbeing. She believes in the power of mindful living, nutritious food, strength training and regular movement to support a vibrant and balanced life. A career highlight has been working with some of New Zealand’s top sports teams, including the Black Caps, All Blacks, NZ Warriors, Silver Ferns, All Black Sevens and the BOP Steamers.

Grant Ryan, Student Massage Therapist
Hey I’m Grant and am currently studying a Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage at the New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine and am providing treatments at Embody as part of my required student clinical hours. I was inspired to learn about massage after receiving amazing remedial massage treatments for a training injury and realised the benefit of keeping up a regime of relaxing the body and calming the nervous system. A bit about me....I have a background in the NZDF and bring a wealth of lived experience. Leading an active lifestyle I enjoy weight training, have competed in Crossfit competitions and briefly tried my hand at bodybuilding for the first time at the age of 50. As a result I understand the importance of balancing work, staying active as we age and ensuring we spend quality maintenance time on the body to ease stress and tension. In my spare time my happy place is on a motorcycle! Whether it be touring the South Island, heading out for an overnight Adventure bike trip, or soaking up the bumps at a local trail ride. I’m really looking forward to welcoming you into the clinic!
Qualifications: - Currently studying NZQA Diploma in Relaxation & Wellness Massage
